Strictly Judge Len Goodman has Died aged 78

Len Goodman, the former judge of Strictly Come Dancing, has passed away at the age of 78 after battling bone cancer.

The sad news was confirmed by his agent, Jackie Gill, who released a statement saying, “It is with great sadness to announce that Len Goodman has passed away peacefully, aged 78. A much loved husband, father and grandfather who will be sorely missed by family, friends and all who knew him.”

Goodman, who was known for his infectious smile, was a popular figure on Strictly Come Dancing, where he served as a judge from 2004 to 2016.

Despite being eventually replaced by Shirley Ballas, he remained beloved by fans of the show.

Tributes have been pouring in on social media, with one person writing, “Not a Strictly fan, but didn’t Len Goodman always have the best smile. Happy chap all round. RIP.” Another added, “Sad to hear #LenGoodman has passed away. A king of dance. Thoughts to his family and friends at this time.”

Goodman’s dancing career began at the age of 19, and he retired from the profession in his late twenties after winning the British Championships in Blackpool.

In 2005, he joined the American version of Dancing with the Stars as the head judge, a role he held until 2022.

Last year, he announced his departure from the show, citing a desire to spend more time with his grandchildren and family in Britain.

In addition to his successful dancing and television career, Goodman was also the owner of the Goodman Dance Academy, a dance school in Dartford, Kent.

He was widely recognised for his contributions to dance and was a recipient of the Carl Alan Award.

Many in the entertainment industry and beyond mourned his passing, including Piers Morgan, who tweeted, “More very sad news from the world of entertainment… RIP Len Goodman, 78 – welder, dancer, judge, and devoted cricket & West Ham fan. Always had a laugh with Len, and swapped a few strong opinions. A quintessential Londoner and a top bloke.”

TV presenter Dan Walker also expressed his sadness, saying, “So sad to hear about the death of Len Goodman. He was an incredible man & an extraordinary talent. Loved making telly with him, being daft with him, playing golf with him & will never forget the little tips he would send every week on Strictly. All my love to his family.”

Goodman’s legacy as a dancer, judge, and television personality is one that will be remembered by many. His contributions to the world of dance and entertainment have left a lasting impact, and he will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and fans.

Rest in peace, Len Goodman.
