Sharon Marshall, a well-known writer for Emmerdale, has recently announced her departure from the ITV soap to pursue new opportunities.
However, just weeks later, it has been revealed that she has signed up with a rival soap, EastEnders.
Marshall, who is also known for her work as a soap expert on This Morning, made the announcement during her appearance on the show.
As she previewed upcoming storylines for Emmerdale, Coronation Street, EastEnders, and Hollyoaks, hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield paused the segments to offer their congratulations. With a smile, Phil stopped talking about the soaps and said: “And you’re joining EastEnders,” whilst Sharon looked gleeful as she showed off her picture with the famous Albert Square sign.

“I am,” she said, “I’ve been over at EastEnders for a little while now. My first episode is coming up next Wednesday. It’s obligatory that you’ve got to take a photo like that. I’m part of the writing team now, I’m thrilled to say.”
Marshall expressed her excitement about working with the EastEnders team and revealed that she has an upcoming episode all about Keanu and Ravi and Sharon. She added that writing Sharon’s character has been an amazing experience.
Holly then chimed in to say they were lucky to have her, as Sharon shared: “No, I’m lucky to be there. That team’s on fire. I just heard about what they have planned and I just said, I really want in.”
EastEnders is known for its explosive storylines and dramatic plot twists, and fans are eagerly awaiting the upcoming Christmas episode, which is set to be a huge event. Executive producer Chris Clenshaw has teased that the show is planning a ‘whodunnit’ storyline, but it will be different from the traditional format. The show’s writing and story team came up with the idea of flashing forward, promising a ‘whodunnit’ in the future. However, they decided not to reveal the identity of the victim, making it a ‘who-is-it’ mystery as well.
“We then decided to kick the story off at a time when The Six – Linda, Suki, Kathy, Stacey, Denise and Sharon – are each involved in stories connected to the men in their lives, which fortunately happened to be around the 38th anniversary of EastEnders,” Clenshaw said.
As for Marshall’s new role in the show, details about her upcoming storylines are being kept under wraps for now. But with her experience and talent as a soap writer, fans can be sure that she will bring her unique touch to EastEnders and help the show to continue its success.
