Love Island confirms start date for 2024 summer series

Love Island has revealed the eagerly anticipated start date for its summer series, returning to ITV2 for its 11th season.

The hit dating show will once again feature a group of charismatic singles living together in a villa in Majorca, as they search for love and try to avoid public “dumpings.” The ultimate aim for the islanders is to find romance and win over viewers to secure the £50,000 prize. Just over three months after the all-star winter series concluded in February, fans can look forward to a new lineup of contestants engaging in conversations, figuring out where their heads are at, and inevitably concluding: “It is what it is.”

The show premieres on Monday, 3 June at 9pm, airing simultaneously on ITV1, ITV2, and ITVX. Following the premiere, Love Island will continue on ITV2 and ITVX for the remainder of the series.

A post on the show’s official account on X/Twitter features a picture of host Maya Jama dressed in red, with a flaming heart in the background, captioned “We’re coming in hot,” accompanied by a flame emoji.

Dedicated fans eagerly anticipated the start, urging: “Hurry up and show the lineup.” One fan commented, “I’ll be sat,” while a student lamented, “Really, just when I’m starting to write exams.”

However, not everyone was enthusiastic, with some hoping the show would refresh its format with more intriguing characters and exciting challenges. “Let’s hope it was better than the last, get some interesting people in, do good challenges. Or this will be the last I see,” one viewer warned.

Others were even more critical, with comments like: “Abysmal show. Get it in the bin.”

Despite the mixed reactions, loyal followers were ready for another summer of drama. “I don’t know how and why Love Island just does it for me. Pure giddiness,” one fan expressed.

This season, the show has introduced some changes, including requiring islanders to pause their social media accounts while on the show, rather than having them managed by family and friends. Additionally, contestants and staff will receive training on inclusive language and behaviour regarding disability, sexuality, race and ethnicity, and microaggressions.
