Married At First Sight Australia star Eden Harper has candidly discussed her unexpected breakup with Jayden Eynaud, describing it as coming “out of the blue.”
On the most recent episode of the show, their relationship appeared destined for success as they reached the final vows and chose to stay together. However, last month, they announced their decision to separate, with Eden recently revealing that the breakup was a shock to her. “I was bawling my eyes out,” she shared on the Sit With Us podcast. “There were a couple of things about the relationship that were different to what I’m used to but it was something we wanted to work through. It was really shocking to come out of the blue.”
Eden attributed some of their relationship issues to the time spent apart while Jayden focused on his kickboxing career.
“[He was] very strict with his sport and training, to the point where he won’t share a bed at night so he likes to be able to stretch and recover,” Eden explained. “That for me was a big deal breaker almost because I’m like, I need to be able to share a bed with a partner.
“Eventually one of the nights where he came to stay, he said, ‘I can’t do this. I feel like I can’t meet your expectations.’ I was just really confused, because the only thing I’d ever asked him was for a sleepover once a week.”
Eden revealed that while Jayden “made his decision,” she was “holding onto hope” that he would realize his mistake. Ultimately, she admitted that she had to “really accept” that “I wasn’t what he wanted.”
In April, Eden announced their breakup after eight months together through a statement on Instagram. She expressed her sadness, noting that their relationship ended shortly before the series finished airing, but she emphasized that she would “never regret” participating in the experiment.
“When I made the decision at final vows to be with Jayden, I really did that with the intention of it being forever,” she began her statement.
She continued: “Jayden & I spent many months together after the experiment, Cub gained a dad and I gained a whole second family who I’m truly grateful for. I’m saddened to share that toward the end of the show airing, our relationship came to an end. The reality is, the person I chose, didn’t choose me.”
Eden concluded by thanking her fans for their support and added: “Whilst I’m disappointed that what you saw didn’t translate in the real world, I will never regret this experiment, the people I met, the lessons I learnt and the growth it has had on me.”
Soon after, Jayden broke his silence with a statement on Instagram, calling Eden an “amazing woman” but acknowledging that things “don’t always go the way you hoped for.”
