Love Island fans brand Islander a ‘walking red flag’ after brutal series opener

The latest season of Love Island has just begun, and already one contestant has caught fans’ attention, with many dubbing him a ‘walking red flag’.

The initial group of 12 islanders entered the Mallorca villa on Monday, and host Maya Jama introduced a twist to the traditional coupling-up ceremony. Instead of the usual pairing process, this year’s contestants were matched based on their initial impressions of each other.

Ronnie Vint, a 27-year-old semi-pro footballer, found himself coupled with Jess White, a 25-year-old retail manager from Stockport, after they both ranked third in terms of boyfriend/girlfriend material.

While Ronnie and Jess seemed to hit it off at first, fans quickly expressed concern about Ronnie’s intentions, labelling him a potential troublemaker for the girls on the show.

“Ronnie is a walking red flag he didn’t even need to open his mouth for me to believe it,” remarked one viewer, while another speculated, “ronnie is gorg but i defo feel like he’s gonna break a few hearts.”

Others took to social media to nickname him “Red Flag Ronnie” and expressed frustration with his behaviour, with one saying, “Ronnie is a menace, why are we 5 minutes into the nightttime sequence and he’s already kissed two girls on the top of their head?????”

Regardless of how Ronnie chooses to navigate the villa dynamics, he’ll need to think quickly on his feet to stay in the game. The first episode ended with a bombshell entrance from The Only Way Is Essex’s Joey Essex, shaking things up for both viewers and islanders. With Joey’s arrival, one of the boys could find themselves single and facing elimination.
