Love Island viewers are convinced they’ve figured out the ‘real reason’ Samantha Kenny wants to be paired with Joey Essex.
The popular ITV2 dating series returned last week with a fresh batch of contestants: make-up artist Samantha, recruitment manager Munveer Jabbal, account manager Nicole Samuel, footballer Ronnie Vint, office administrator Patsy Field, surveyor Ciaran Davies, mental health nurse Mimii Ngulube, hair stylist Sam Taylor, retail manager Jess White, model Ayo Odukoya, dancer Harriett Blackmore, and sweet salesman Sean Stone.
There have already been several twists, including the surprise arrival of TOWIE star Joey Essex as a bombshell last week. Joey coupled up with Samantha, resulting in Sam being dumped from the villa. On Wednesday night, a new arrival, Uma Jammeh, joined the villa, and on Friday night, Omar Nyame entered as another bombshell.
During Sunday’s episode, Joey shouted, “I’ve got a text!” to which Samantha replied with a TOWIE impression: “Shut up,” prompting Joey to repeat it. Nicole interjected, “We need to stop quoting TV films!” Samantha laughed and responded, “It’s TOWIE! He’s fuming, he hates it, he goes: ‘Ah!'”
Nicole then asked, “Do you hate it?” Joey admitted, “I don’t hate it but I don’t even know what you’re talking about…” Samantha continued, “Well, you know that: ‘You ain’t ever getting this candy!” This left Ciaran confused, and the girls explained, “That’s what the GC does…” Joey added, “I was with my mate in the pool and then some girl walks out and says: ‘You ain’t ever getting this candy!’ Literally, probably about eleven and a half years ago!”
Ciaran then remarked, “Samantha, I can’t lie, I feel like you know more about Joey than Joey knows about himself!” Joey added, “She’s obviously been researching me and everything…” Samantha confessed, “I was just a big TOWIE fan, leave me alone!”
Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers quickly speculated whether Samantha was only interested in Joey because of his TOWIE fame after she revealed she’s a huge fan of the ITVBe series.
One person commented, “Joey defo gonna get the ick with Samantha if she keeps quoting TOWIE #LoveIsland.” Another wrote, “Samantha being a TOWIE fan is giving Joey the ick #loveIsland.” A third added, “Samantha being a big TOWIE fan is a lowkey [red flag] for Joey #loveisland.” Another viewer noted, “Not her saying she’s a big TOWIE fan. That’s so cringe yikes #loveIsland,” while someone else added, “How cringe saying she was a big TOWIE fan #loveIsland.”
