The time of year is approaching when the little voice in your head starts whispering, “Maybe I do need a new iPhone,” even though your current one is working just fine.
Apple is getting ready to unveil its latest smartphone, the iPhone 16.
As summer winds down and we bid farewell to our phones overheating, the tech giant is gearing up for its annual event at Apple Park in California. While we eagerly await the announcement of new features and brace ourselves for the inevitable drop in our current device’s value (hello, lower phone bills), the event won’t just focus on the new iPhone.
Dubbed ‘It’s Glowtime,’ the event will also introduce a brand new product, with some major changes anticipated.

This year marks ten years since the first Apple Watch was introduced, and rumours suggest the occasion will be commemorated with the launch of an ‘Apple Watch X.’
This mirrors the release of the iPhone X in 2017, which celebrated the iPhone’s 10th anniversary.
If you’re feeling a bit nostalgic (and maybe a bit old), you’re not alone. The buzz about this special watch comes from well-known leaker Mark Gurman.
In his weekly newsletter, the California-based Apple insider detailed how the company is “preparing for a big update.”
“Apple Watch is nearing its 10th birthday and the company has a chance to mark the occasion,” he wrote. “With the X model, Apple designers are working on a thinner watch case and have explored changing the way bands are attached to the device.”
Gurman also mentioned that the rumoured watch is expected to feature significant changes, including a larger display.
On the technical side, the ‘Apple Watch X’ might come equipped with some ‘enhancements under the hood,’ such as new AI-capable chips. If this turns out to be true, they ‘could lay the groundwork for some AI enhancements down the road.’
However, don’t expect Apple’s upcoming AI advancements to run on the watch just yet; it’s reportedly ‘only headed to the iPhone, iPad, and Mac’ for now, ahead of the Vision Pro.
The special Apple event is scheduled for September 9, but the exact date when the new iPhones (and possibly other devices) will go on sale hasn’t been confirmed. However, experts predict that pre-orders could begin on September 13.
