Gary Lucy, the Hollyoaks actor, has confirmed the reason behind his split with Scottish Love Island star Laura Anderson.
The couple met while filming Celebs Go Dating last year and had a whirlwind romance following the show. They announced that they were expecting their first child together, but soon after, Lucy revealed that their relationship had ended.
According to The Sun, the couple had a series of rows following their first baby scan.
Anderson had reportedly wanted Lucy to move to Scotland, but he refused, citing his responsibilities to his four children who he shares with his ex-wife in England.
“Laura did want me to move but I have my responsibilities here. I have four kids and all the things that go along with that, so it’s very difficult, if not impossible, to uproot at this time,” said Lucy.
Despite the split, both Lucy and Anderson are committed to co-parenting their unborn child together.
Lucy praised Anderson, saying, “She’s carrying my child, and I love her even more than I did before because of who she is and what she is doing. It’s incredible. She’s doing a wonderful job. I would have loved things to have worked out. But we’re doing our best to do things right and be responsible, loving co-parents going forward. The baby is our number one priority.”
The former soap star also did not rule out the possibility of a future reconciliation with Anderson.
“We can’t get things to work at this time, but who knows what the future holds? I think the world of her,” he said.
The couple had frequently posted loved-up snaps of each other on social media, and Lucy had spent Christmas and New Year in Scotland with Anderson.
The news of their split came as a surprise, especially since they had announced their pregnancy just days earlier.
Despite the circumstances, Lucy seems to be taking the split in stride and focusing on what’s important.
“Having gone through a divorce, my children need me, and living such a long way from them just would not be possible. I wish I could break myself in half. I would if I could,” he said.
