The 40-year-old TV personality, known for his appearances on Gogglebox and Celebrity Big Brother, tragically passed away on Wednesday (March 27) following a reported workplace accident, leaving fans devastated.
Just five days prior to his passing, George had shared a snapshot of himself appearing content, alongside the caption: “Done. Full membership,” accompanied by an image of a gym card. In the photo, George, clad in a black hoodie, appeared to have been engaged in exercise.
Following the heartbreaking news of his demise, tributes poured in for George from his grieving fans. One social media user expressed profound shock, writing: “Absolutely speechless. Rest in eternal peace George James Gilbey. Thinking of all your family – life’s really is cruel and tomorrow is never promised.” Another described him as “one in a million.”
Former Geordie Shore star Ricci Guarnaccio shared his sorrow, referring to George as his “brother.” In a heartfelt tweet, Guarnaccio lamented George’s passing, recalling fond memories and expressing deep sadness at the loss.
Essex Police released a statement, detailing the incident at Campfield Road in Shoebury, which resulted in George’s fatal fall while working at height. Despite the efforts of emergency services, George succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
George, a beloved figure on Gogglebox alongside his mum Linda and stepdad Pete, first graced the show’s screens in its second series in 2013, quickly endearing himself to audiences. After departing Gogglebox in 2014, George ventured into the Celebrity Big Brother house, where he garnered significant support and reached the final.

George’s stepfather and fellow Gogglebox star, Pete, tragically passed away in 2021, only days after being diagnosed with bowel cancer.
