Amidst the drama, Jono revealed the reason behind keeping his new relationship secret from his ex-wife, Lauren. Speaking with Daily Mail Australia, he explained, “We were sworn to secrecy, so we were told we couldn’t tell anyone. I didn’t really feel the need to let her know, we were told not to, so that was the one condition of us coming back.”
Detailing the measures taken by the producers to maintain secrecy, Jono disclosed, “Yeah, the producers were like, ‘You’re not allowed to talk to anyone’. They flew us down separately, so we didn’t get seen together. They put us in a hotel by ourselves, away from all the other cast members. So yeah, it was a big secret they wanted to keep.”
Expressing dissatisfaction with their portrayal in the reunion episodes, Jono felt that he and Ellie had acted appropriately but believed the production misrepresented them. He expressed frustration, stating, “We did the right thing, but they took that and threw it in our face,” noting that it appeared as if they were being “mean” to Lauren.
