Coronation Street reveals who reported Daniel Osbourne to social services in early ITVX release

Warning: Contains spoilers for Sunday’s episode of Coronation Street, which airs at 8:30pm on ITV1 or can be streamed now on ITVX.

Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) has been visited by a member of social services in Coronation Street.

Earlier this week, after realising that housemate Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances Brown) was the mystery person who orchestrated the vile online hate campaign against him.

He was furious and made a huge, public display of fury in the Rovers Return, before hitting the bottle. By the time he got home, babysitter Kirk Sutherland (Andrew Whyment) informed him that his son Bertie (Henry Duggan) hadn’t eaten yet.

Daniel passed out on the sofa, forcing Bertie to try and prepare his own food. The youngster placed a bowl covered in tin foil into the microwave, and it soon began to spark and smoke filled the room.

When the fire alarm sounded, Bertie rushed out to the Barlow residence, with Adam (Sam Robertson) and Tracy (Kate Ford) deciding to teach Daniel a lesson.

When he awoke on the sofa the next day, alarmed by the sound of a Bessie Street primary school teacher wondering where his son was, Daniel jumped into a state of panic. He rushed around the streets of Weatherfield, terrified that he’d lost him forever.

After bumping into Tracy, he was unnerved by her implication that she knew where Bertie was, and demanded answers. An argument ensued with Adam, and when Daniel went to throw a punch, he knocked pensioner dad Ken Barlow (William Roache) onto the sofa.

Later, he received a huge shock – a social worker, Ruth Hawley (Amy Drake), was knocking at the door.

In the latest episode, Daniel prepared Bertie, telling him that there was nothing to worry about. He nervously showed Ruth into the flat, and she made it clear from the outset that she wasn’t there to apprehend Daniel for his actions.

She wanted to see if he needed extra assistance in caring for him, and said she was recommending him for the ‘Child in Need’ plan.

Daniel had become convinced that either Ken, Adam, Tracy, Kirk, Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) or her newcomer cousin Idris (Junade Khan) – who found great hilarity in his misfortune – was responsible for reporting him.

However, later that day, he was forced to awkwardly apologise to Adam and Alya after realising the truth.

He said that he appreciated all of their help, and that it was actually a teacher at Bessie Street who had raised concerns after hearing Bertie talking about his difficult home life.

Will this intervention help Daniel get back on the right path?

Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 or can be streamed from 7am on ITVX.
