King Charles Selling 12 of Queen’s Beloved Racehorses in ‘Wind Down’ Operation

King Charles III is to sell 12 of the late Queen’s beloved racehorses and is reportedly ‘winding down’ the entire breeding operation.

The 73-year-old has put the winning horses up for auction at Newmarket’s Tattersalls House.

Amongst the animals the new monarch is selling, is ‘Just Fine’ who was the first horse to win for the King back in September.

It has also been reported that ‘Love Affairs’, the last horse to win for Queen Elizabeth, is also up for sale.

The Mail Online reported that the late monarch had 37 racehorses at the time of her passing and that amount is expected to be reduced to 25.

A source told the publication that “winding down” the entire breeding operation over a course of three years, is one option for the new King.

The unnamed source said:

“The Royal stud could be a museum in three years. It would be a real shame.

“The connection between the family and the horse racing industry will continue.

“The desire is to continue with the traditions and connections with Royal Ascot but not on the same scale as Her Majesty because she had a passion.”

The Queen passed away on September 8 2022 at the age of 96. She was the UK’s longest reigning monarch and the second longest reigning monarch in history.

Following her death, the then Prince Charles automatically became King. His official coronation ceremony will take place 6 May 2023, the same day that his son’s child turns four.

Considering Prince Harry has stepped down as a senior member of the royal family and no longer performs royal duties, some members of the public have speculated that the coronation ceremony being held on his son’s birthday is potentially in bad taste and a not-so-subtle dig at Harry and Meghan.
