The Queen Consort Honoured Queen Elizabeth II in Subtle Way

The new Queen Consort honoured the late Queen Elizabeth in a beautifully subtle way.

On 12 September, the Queen’s coffin was taken from the Throne Room at the Palace of Holyroodhouse to the Cathedral, so that members of the public could pay their respects before the late Queen takes her last journey – back down to London.

Behind the coffin, her Majesty’s children walked: King Charles II, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

Behind the children, in a car, was the new Queen Consort Camilla with Sophie, Prince Edwards wife.

The new Queen Consort looked elegant in a black long-sleeved dress and a black hat adorned with fur.

For jewelry, she wore a pearl necklace with a diamond pendant in the centre, gold bracelets on her wrist and a large diamond thistle brooch – a gift from her late mother-in-law.

Now known as the Queen Consort, Camilla was not originally supposed to take this title. In 2005 when the she married the then Prince Charles, Buckingham Palace announced that she would take the title Princess Consort once Queen Elizabeth II passed and Charles became King.

However, just before her passing, the 96-year-old shared her “sincere wish” for Camilla to be titled Queen and not Princess.

In a letter, the Queen had written:

“When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”
