Ryan Reynolds Recorded Himself Getting Colonoscopy to Raise Awareness

Actor Ryan Reynolds filmed himself getting a colonoscopy in order to raise awareness for the routine cancer-screening procedure.

Both he and writer Rob McElhenney are co-chairmen of the Welsh football club, Wrexham AFC.

As a result of this joint venture, Reynolds made a bet with McElhenney that he could not learn Welsh.

If he lost the bet, Reynolds promised to document and share his first colonoscopy procedure – a routine medical screening that is advised for men age 45 and up to check for cancerous cells in the colon.

The procedure is performed by putting a long, thin camera up your bottom. If anything is found, the medical team can then either remove the potentially cancerous cells or advise next steps going forward.

The 45-year-old lost the bet as the ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ writer did indeed learn Welsh.

True to his word, when receiving the medical procedure, the father of three had a camera man in the hospital with him, recording the experience in order to let people see that is not as daunting as one would think.

Once the procedure was done, the doc actually had some good news to share.

In doing the check-up, they were able to find and remove a potentially cancerous polyp. Reynolds had absolutely no symptoms and was unaware that the polyl even existed.

Just proof of how important these screenings are.

The doctor who performed the 25-minute procedure said:

“I was able to find an extremely subtle polyp…this was potentially life saving for you. I’m not kidding, i’m not being overly dramatic…this is exactly why you do this”

Amazing!
