School Removed Doors on Toilets, Leaving Parents Livid

A school in Greater Manchester has left parents furious after removing the doors in the children’s toilet.

Parrenthorn High school, based in Bury, made a seemingly bizarre choice in order to ‘keep pupils as safe as possible’.

The rather odd announcement was made during a recent school assembly, where the children were told that the doors into the toilet, not the cubicle doors, were being removed, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

The high school claims this is to protect the children’s safety – they said it is  ‘to keep pupils as safe as possible and improve the school environment,’.

As you may have guessed, parents and children are outraged at this odd decision. One parent said:

“The privacy has gone (…) Do you really want to adjust yourself at the mirrors in full view of anyone passing by? Especially when a teenager, I think not.”

Parents are angry at the privacy being taken from their kids. Another Parrenthorn said:

“Privacy is a human right and it’s being eroded one step at a time.”

The school Headteacher, Mr Chris Bell, argued that this decision was in fact brought up at a school meeting before the children broke up for summer.

However, the head added that ‘not a huge amount of parents’ showed to that particular gathering, hence why so many are shocked by the decision.

Bell stated:

“We have spent a long time carefully thinking through and designing this.”

“We wouldn’t have done this if we didn’t think it was appropriate,

“Like all schools we want to make every single part as safe as possible and make sure the pupils – particularly the younger kids who don’t know it as well as the older ones – feel comfortable in there.”

“We do think this is a positive thing for the school moving forward,”

Is this a decision you would agree with?
