Will There Be a Holiday on Day of Queen’s Funeral?

Queen Elizabeth II sadly died yesterday 8 September 2022 at the age of 96.

She was the longest reigning sovereign Britain has ever had, being on the throne for 70 years.

The world has been shaken at this sad news, with many tributes pouring in for the Queen and her family.

The Queen’s state funeral will be held 10 days after she passed at Westminster Abbey.

This day is named a “Day of National Mourning”. This will not be officially declared a bank holiday, however.

If the funeral lands on a weekday, it is up to employers if they wish to give their staff the day off. The government will not order this day to be a bank holiday.

At 12pm on the Day of National Mourning, there will be a two minute silence held around the country.

Documents that were leaked September 2021 stated that the funeral of the monarch kickstarts the plans for Operation London Bridge.

In these plans, there are arrangements for overseas visitors, transport plans for tourists arriving in London and heightened security.

The funeral service will be led by the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Royal family will be in attendance along with politicians and heads of state from around the world.

Banks and the London Stock Exchange will close on the day of the funeral but as it will not be declared a bank holiday, schools and other businesses will remain open.

Once her Majesty passed, a 10-day mourning period began. 8 September is named D-Day, while each day following is named D+1, D+2 and so on.

After King Charles III duties at Balmoral are done, he will start a tour of the UK, visiting Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
